9/11 Memorial
2002
Burnt poplar, needles and thread
28 x 120 x 2
This memorial honors the victims of the attack on the World Trade Center on September 11th, 2001. Two-thousand nine hundred fifty-four needles are lined up in rows, each placed 3/4 of an inch apart on two ten-foot tall boards of burnt poplar. Each needle represents one of the lives lost that day. One single thread runs through all of the needles and connects the two sides.
